The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, & Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Engineering Technician I/II (Engineering Technician 1A) grade A16 position in the Plan Screening & Distribution Division.

About the Position

This is an entry-level to full performance para-professional engineering position in the Plans Screening and Distribution Unit that assists the Engineering Technician V. The incumbent is responsible for plans administration to ensure services are delivered timely and appropriately during the permitting process to both internal and external customers. Work is performed that affords independent judgment and technical evaluation under the general supervision of the Engineering Technician V.,

Permit Center Manager, and/or the Assistant Associate Director for the Division or designee. The incumbent performs work diligently to complete tasks and duties as assigned to meet agency needs. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing a variety of clerical and/or administrative duties relative to the position.

About The Agency

The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.

  • Manage multiple building and Use & Occupancy project submissions through timely screening and distribution of plans for reviews.
  • Act as a knowledgeable technical liaison to contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, County review agencies and others, regarding plans compliance requirements and review statuses.
  • Perform all project coordination and project administrator tasks on the ePlan/Project Dox system including plans screening of residential and commercial building plan submissions for completeness prior to submission of application for permits.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or GED, including or supplemented by courses in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • One (1) year of para-professional engineering work
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating with other permitting agencies to acquire or issue permits
  • Experience with process/modeling/design changes and reengineering
  • Experience with electronic permitting systems
  • Experience with database tools, creating and executing reports
  • Experience with processing applications and issuing permits
  • Ability to effectively speak and present in a public forum
