Position Summary

The Area Director will have administrative responsibility for the individuals, staff, and facilities, as well as a broad range of program‑wide administrative issues. This position requires a commitment to individual choice and community integration and inclusion. In the absence of the Division Director, the person in this position is responsible for the overall administrative functioning of the Community Living Program. Travel by car is necessary and a great deal of time will be spent in individual sites for observation, training and supervision purposes.

The position requires responding to emergencies during and after hours, and on weekends as needed. The Area Director must pay close attention to detail for accurate results and will be operating under frequent exposure to unusual pressure, therefore good stress‑management skills are necessary and expected.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee Person‑Centered Planning for assigned region, ensuring all services, medical care, behavioral supports, meaningful day activities, and recreation occur as outlined in each individual’s Person Centered Plan (PCP).
  • Coordinate and monitor Behavioral Support Plans, service delivery, and documentation in compliance with state, waiver, and agency regulations.
  • Develop, write, attend, and monitor Person Centered Plans, working closely with individuals, families, planning coordinators, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure protection of individual rights, promote self‑advocacy, and monitor sites to confirm rights are upheld.
  • Conduct routine and random reviews of PCPs, community integration, health services, staff communication, and documentation using electronic health records and manual systems; provide corrective action and training as needed.
  • Manage financial oversight for assigned programs, including budgets, fiscal planning, purchasing, accounting documentation, petty cash, individual funds, and benefit protection (e.g., Medicaid, SSI/SSDI).
  • Support capital improvement efforts, maintenance planning, and cost‑effective resource allocation to maintain high‑quality living environments.
  • Supervise and support Program Managers and Community Living staff, ensuring consistent community participation aligned with individual preferences and plans.
  • Ensure safe, compliant, and well‑maintained homes, responding to inspections, plans of correction, emergencies, and coordinating repairs or relocations as necessary.
  • Monitor health and safety services, including routine and emergency medical care, medications, and service improvements.
  • Provide leadership and supervision, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluations, discipline, and monthly supervision and team meetings.
  • Maintain effective communication with individuals, families, staff, providers, and stakeholders; complete required reports, documentation, and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all federal, state, county, and Quality Assurance requirements, including incident reporting, investigations, and plans of correction.
  • Model professionalism, confidentiality, initiative, and agency values in all interactions and decision‑making.

  • Requires strong attention to detail, consistent follow‑up, multi‑tasking, and the ability to perform effectively in high‑stress situations.
Qualifications
  • Hold one of the following combinations of education and experience:
    • BA/BS from an accredited college or university in human services or a related field with at least 3 years of related administrative experience, or
    • AA degree with at least 5 years of related administrative experience, or
    • High School Diploma/GED with at least 8 years of related administrative experience.
