PACU Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Assignment — Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. Join our perioperative and post-anesthesia care team for a 13-week travel nursing opportunity starting March 23, 2026. Ideal candidates have 2+ years of recent PACU experience (first-time travelers with 3–5 years PACU or 2 years ICU experience considered), an active RN license in Maryland or a Compact State, and current AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS/NIHSS certifications.

Job Summary
  • Assignment Type: Travel Nurse (PACU RN)
  • Location: Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 — Washington, D.C. area (Maryland travel nursing).   • Unit: PACU (16 beds) — Post-Anesthesia Care Unit / Post-Op Care
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks (short-term travel assignment)
  • Start Date: March 23, 2026
  • Shifts: 3 x 12-hour day shifts (07:30 – 20:00)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4 (PACU nurse ratio)
  • Patient Age Range: Pediatrics to Geriatrics
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: As scheduled
  • Floating: Required within specialty and to sister locations as needed
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1850–$1950/week
Required Qualifications — PACU Nurse / Perioperative Nurse
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PACU experience required. First-time travel nurses accepted with 3–5 years strong PACU or 2 years ICU experience.
  • Active RN license in Maryland or Compact State (Maryland nursing jobs eligibility)
  • Certifications:

    BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS (AHA only)
  • Experience with Epic charting system preferred (electronic medical record experience)
  • Previous charge, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
  • Comfortable floating within the hospital and to sister locations as needed
  • References: 2 satisfactory professional references required (1 supervisor/manager and 1 charge RN)
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions). COVID-19 vaccine not required.
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (travel nursing relocation requirement)
Key Responsibilities — PACU RN / Post-Anesthesia Care
  • Provide high-quality post-anesthesia and postoperative care for patients recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures: orthopedic, neurology, cardiothoracic, vascular, general, thoracic, urology, and gynecology surgeries.
  • Monitor and assess vital signs, airway status, pain control, neurological status, and hemodynamic stability.
  • Administer medications, IVs, analgesia, and other treatments as prescribed; titrate medications per protocols.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including anesthesia, surgical teams, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services.
  • Provide patient and family education on post-op care, discharge instructions, and follow-up planning.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic (preferred) and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in rapid response, emergency interventions, and transport as needed.
  • Float to other units within the specialty and to sister locations as required by staffing needs.
