Position: Vascular Thoracic Nurse Practitioner (PRN)

PRN Vascular & Thoracic Nurse Practitioner

The University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking a PRN Vascular & Thoracic Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Heart & Vascular Institute. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive inpatient vascular and thoracic surgical care.

The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will be trained to support all aspects of the vascular and thoracic surgery service and may have opportunities to cross-cover other APP-led specialty services as needed.

Responsibilities

Working collaboratively with the physician team, the Nurse Practitioner will:

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, obtain medical histories, conduct daily rounds, and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with vascular and thoracic surgical conditions across the inpatient setting.
  • Order, interpret, and communicate diagnostic and laboratory studies.
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care while collaborating closely with surgeons, consulting services, nursing staff, and ancillary departments.
  • Perform bedside procedures and wound management within approved privileges and according to departmental protocols.
  • First assist in the operating room when credentialed and clinically indicated.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, recovery, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Promote quality improvement initiatives while supporting UM Capital Region Health's High Reliability Organization principles of patient safety, professionalism, and zero harm.
  • Participate in APP Council meetings, Heart & Vascular Institute meetings, continuing education, quality initiatives, committee work, and mentorship opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) and graduation from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP/ACNP) program.
  • Current Maryland Nurse Practitioner license (or eligibility), national certification, and current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Eligible for credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office.
  • One year of vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, acute care surgery, critical care, or related inpatient surgical experience preferred.
  • ATLS certification is preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced surgical environment while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.

Pay Range: $61.63 - $81.35 per hour
