The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission is a bi-county agency servicing both Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. Prince George’s County, the public’s recreation programs are developed and maintained by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

If so, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, is where you want to be! We’re looking to fill an Equipment Operator I - CDL position. In this role, you’ll work with a team to complete projects, construct and perform maintenance and repairs on stormwater structures, operate commercial vehicles, and help to complete construction project renovations all while having a positive impact on our county’s climate resilience.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time National Recreational and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner. This position falls within the Facility Services Division (FSD), the largest Division within the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County. We provide high-quality maintenance and support services for all parks and recreation facilities. FSD has six (6) major work areas:
Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Heavy Equipment, Sustainability, Aquatic Maintenance), and the Administration section.
Equipment Operator I - CDL will join the Critical Projects Team within the Facility Services Division. The successful candidate will work under general supervision performing equipment operation work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, variety, and dexterity. They will operate light-to-medium equipment (e.g., attachments, dump truck with plow, skid steer front-end loader and water trucks) and light equipment such as jack hammers, gas powered saws and chainsaws, and hand tools to perform construction, renovation, grading, and maintenance work in parks.
This work is highly collaborative in nature and requires an effective team player.
- Utilizes specific personal protection equipment such as foot protection, respirator, or protective eye wear; ensures safeguards are in place.
- Ensures safe and efficient work practices are followed in work areas and sites as well as methods of machine operation, maintenance, and storage.
- Performs critical American with Disabilities Act (ADA) work to remove barriers and maintain compliance.
- Operates heavy equipment on projects requiring less skill and complexity, such as large bulldozers, motor graders, road graders, dump trucks with plow, water trucks and other heavy equipment to perform routine construction and maintenance work such as ground excavation work, raising or lowering terrain to specified grade.
