The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Laborer I/II, grade A06/08 position, in the Sustainable Waste Management Division.
About the PositionThis is an entry to full-performance level, manual labor position in the performance of unskilled tasks of a physically demanding nature. Work is performed with general supervision, either in a crew or alone. This position is designated essential in accordance with DoE Instruction 110.4.
About the AgencyThe Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful, and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management, and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Flood Management and Environmental Resilience Division and Stormwater Management Division);
collecting, processing, and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities, and households (Sustainable Waste Management Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (Flood Management and Environmental Resilience Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints, and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
- Performs manual work in the accomplishment of limited skilled duties related to collection of bulky trash items and household refuse.
- Works as a member of the Bulky Trash Collection crew under the direct supervision of Crew Supervisor II, loading and unloading large bulky and miscellaneous trash materials.
- Operates light automotive equipment such as the lift gate, compactor activator, etc.
- Cleans up and removes trash and other debris from the Landfill property and adjacent roadways under general supervision as assigned.
- When required, participate as a crew member in collecting household refuse, lifting, emptying and returning trash cans as directed by the supervisor.
- Participates and assists with Comprehensive Community Cleanups as assigned.
- Adheres to all Agency & County anti-scavenging policies.
- Washes or assists with the cleaning of the Bulky trucks.
- Adheres to/practices safe work habits in the performance of all assigned tasks.
- Completes annual safety training and/or examinations in accordance with MOSHA/OSHA safety requirements.
- Courteously responds to homeowner and/or the general public’s concern relative to removal of household refuse and/or bulky trash materials.
- Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description but is within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the class of work.
- Completion of six (6) school grades.
- Possession of driver’s license.
The salary range listed in this announcement reflects the anticipated offer range for this position. Offers made within this range are based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
