Job Overview
The Office of Research Administration (ORA) at Colorado School of Mines is seeking an IP & Contract Administrator. The role involves drafting, negotiating, and managing intellectual property and contract agreements and serving as a resource to faculty and stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities- Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate contracts and agreements related to intellectual property and academic research, including NDAs, MTAs, IIAs, IPMPs, technology licensing agreements, and amendments.
- Collaborate with ORA to embed IP language in sponsored research and grant award agreements.
- Assess and communicate contractual terms such as IP rights, confidentiality, indemnification, risk, publishing rights, governing law, and compliance with university and state law.
- Prioritize and manage a diverse queue of sponsor agreements, meeting deadlines and escalating non‑standard terms as required.
- Maintain open communication with faculty, stakeholders, and external sponsors to explain policies, regulatory requirements, and contracting processes.
- Manage institutional data repository functions, ensuring accurate and timely entry of executed agreements into the iEdison system and generating required reports.
- Provide formal and informal training to faculty and staff on contract policy and best practices.
- Support process improvement initiatives, evaluating procedures for efficiency and recommending improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, technical, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience negotiating transactional contracts in research administration and/or technology licensing.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing university research and intellectual property.
- Proficiency with research and IP management databases, including iEdison.
- Strong customer service orientation, ability to work with diverse constituencies, and meet multiple deadlines.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills with independent judgment.
- Proficiency in databases, presentation software, and enterprise financial systems.
- Master’s degree in business, technical, or related field.
- Understanding of university environment and policies.
- Annual salary: $71,600 – $79,600.
