. This position offers the flexibility to be based anywhere in Colorado.

Overview

Stantec’s Colorado Construction Management Group seeks a highly motivated Project Manager with strong heavy civil transportation construction experience. The primary responsibility is to monitor and report on work executed on site by construction contractor(s) and subcontractors to ensure compliance with the construction contract. The Project Manager leads a team that typically includes project controls, construction inspectors, and administrative staff, and may advise clients on issues, risks, and remedial actions.

Coordination with clients, contractors, and stakeholders across communications, reporting, change management, scheduling, quality, risk, material, environmental, regulatory permitting, and logistics is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide construction management leadership to the project team in support of the client.
  • Serve as Stantec’s lead employee on contract providing CM oversight services to a government agency.
  • Manage a diverse group of employees and subcontractors to execute a contract.
  • Recommend remedial actions for client approval—no independent decision authority.
  • Lead health and safety responsibilities, including developing and implementing project‑specific safety plans and monitoring compliance with safety, security, and environmental requirements.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects.
  • Apply sound professional judgment to solve complex problems.
  • Collaborate within the project team, communicating ideas, design issues, and solutions.
  • Prepare and coordinate project deliverables: reports, cost and schedule reporting, specification reviews, and engineering documents.
  • Monitor contractors for compliance with schedule, budget, technical specifications, and legal requirements.
  • Conduct field inspections as required to support project development and completion.
  • Assist in preparing contract change orders or modifications when appropriate.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Primavera skillset desirable.
  • OSHA certification preferred.
  • Technical expertise in design and construction, with understanding of various methods.
  • In‑depth knowledge of construction management practices, costs, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles.
  • Strong client relationship building and maintenance.
  • Understanding of legal design and construction requirements for public works contracts.
  • Knowledge of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (non‑technical degrees considered based on experience).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Colorado required, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 10 years of heavy civil transportation construction experience, 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with Colorado Department of Transportation and/or local agency projects as Project Engineer or Assistant Project Engineer preferred.
Work Environment

Typical office work with long periods of computer use, coupled with field assignments that expose staff to the elements, inclement weather, and other site risks.

Pay Range
  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & various CA, NY areas: $ – $ Annually.
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA, NJ areas: $ – $ Annually.
