About the Work Unit
This position is located in CDOT's Region 4 Finals Unit. The unit manages or oversees projects for upgrading, reconstructing, and maintaining the highway system along with other projects that have federal, state and local funds. The Finals Unit provides continual, prompt, reliable support and training for Region engineering personnel, ensuring quality control in compliance with procedures, plans, specifications, and standards.
About the PositionThe Construction Engineering Office Engineer works under the oversight of the Regionals Finals Administrator and the North Program Resident Engineers to assist Project Engineers in the administration of construction projects, ensuring contractor compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Law, auditing construction pay documentation, managing construction documents, and supporting contract modification order preparation. The role also supports the Region Finals Administrator in review and closure of construction pay documentation.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities
- Review contractor and subcontractor weekly payrolls for accuracy, report discrepancies, and track project Form 205s
- Use B2G Now to monitor Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) utilization, report issues, and assist in prompt payment monitoring
- Assist in ensuring DBEs perform commercially useful functions and monitor contractor on‑the‑job training programs
- Conduct Form 280 – EEO and Labor Compliance Interviews
- Support North Program construction projects, requiring frequent travel within northeastern Colorado
- Audit ongoing project pay documentation and recommend corrections; perform engineering calculations and certify documentation accuracy
- Conduct electronic filing audits of construction documentation to ensure compliance with the CDOT Construction Manual
- Examine final documentation, project financial documentation, and associated software applications
- Coordinate with project staff to compile required documentation and upload to electronic files
- Coordinate monthly compliance audits with the regional civil rights office, regional materials document coordinator, and Region finals staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Primarily 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday‑Friday with a flexible schedule outside peak construction season; on‑site presence required during construction season
- Field work around construction equipment and active construction sites
- Travel within the Region for meetings, documentation reviews, and project support
- Operation of CDOT vehicles required
Must total 5 years of experience including:
- 4 years in accounting, business, public administration, computer science, engineering, project management, or related field
- At least 1 year focused on auditing, account analysis, construction pay documentation, construction document management, or project/program administration
Education and Experience
A combination totalling at least 5 years:
- Accredited college or university education in accounting, business administration, public administration, computer science, engineering, project management, or related field
- Full‑time professional work experience with a primary focus on auditing, construction pay documentation, construction document management, or project/program administration
- Demonstrated success with duties listed above
- High ethical standards
- State service experience related to these duties
- Knowledge of contract requirements, on‑the‑job training programs, EEO and civil rights compliance
- Experience with construction project pay documentation, contracts, and modification orders
- Excellent documentation and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities
- Strong time‑management, initiative, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Attention to technical detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to understand higher‑level engineering math
- Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, SAP, and quick learning of additional software
