Position Summary:

The University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNC COM) invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor as a member of the Clinical Faculty. Clinical faculty will be responsible for the planning, directing, and implementation of courses and educational materials and assessments related to the clinical teaching of COM students during all four years of their education.

Successful candidates will join a dynamic and growing team dedicated to providing an innovative, student-centered curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching in an active learning environment, contributing to curriculum development, conducting research, and participating in service activities that support the mission of the college.

This position may be filled by either a contract renewable or tenure-track faculty member, to be determined at the point of offer after consideration of applicable experience and credentials. Individuals who currently hold tenure at a regionally accredited institution may be recommended for tenure or retreat rights at UNC following consultation with appropriate faculty groups and university administration, and upon approval by the Board of Trustees.

Academic rank and salary will depend upon the selected applicant's current rank and experience.

Job Duties:

Teaching and Curriculum Development (60-70%)

* Develop and deliver clear innovative course content that aligns with the college's mission and educational goals.

* Utilize active learning methods such as team-based learning (TBL), case-based learning (CBL), and flipped classrooms.

* Create and present supporting educational materials such as lecture Power Points, voice overs, video recordings, and other tools, as needed.

* Direct and participate in the instruction and education of medical students and other health care professional students both in didactic and laboratory settings.

* Incorporate simulation including the use of high-fidelity simulation mannikins, Standardized Patients and procedural task trainers as appropriate in the instruction and assessment of medical students.

* Collaborate with chairs, other faculty, and administration in curriculum development, assessment, and modification of the curriculum as a part of the college's ongoing quality improvement and assessment program and best practices in medical education.

* Map curriculum using AOA Core Competencies, Entrustable Professional Activities, and other programmatic learning objectives.

Research and Scholarship (10%)

* Engage in research or scholarly activities in the candidate's area of expertise, with opportunities for collaboration within and outside the college.

* Mentor students in research projects, fostering critical thinking and evidence-based practice.

Service (10-20%)

* Serve on college and university committees as assigned, and as a member of the UNC COM faculty assembly.

* Participate in academic advising, mentoring and motivation of medical students, for learning, research, and scholarly activity.

* Serve as a student club advisor.

* Contribute to the college's mission of community engagement and healthcare improvement through outreach and service activities including supervision of COM students in clinical activities such as health fairs, first aid tents, and other COM approved activities.

* Support accreditation and assessment activities, including data collection and reporting.

* Participate in the COM student admission process.

Clinical (0-20%)

* Full-time Clinical faculty who wish to practice clinically may opt to do so for a maximum 20% of workload.

* Teaching/service/research workload assignments will be adapted by mutual agreement to accommodate such activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

* DO or MD degree.

* Teaching experience in a medical school, graduate medical education program or experience as a clinical preceptor.

* Valid active and unrestricted medical license and ability to be fully licensed in Colorado.

* Current board certification or proof of board eligibility in the physician's specialty.
