Job Title

1 Year - CDE Authorized Substitute Teacher

Reports To

Level School Principal and Assistant Principal

Pay Range

$120 for full day (6.5 hours). $60 for 1/2 day.

Summary / Objective

To support students when the classroom teacher is absent by providing instruction and classroom management. Assignments may be at any grade level or subject and last from a half‑day to a full day.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Dress professionally and set a good example for students.
  • Review the classroom teacher’s schedule, lesson plan, seating chart, textbooks and other materials.
  • Maintain established routines and procedures for the assigned classroom.
  • Teach lessons outlined by the absent teacher.
  • Consult with the level principal before initiating any procedures not specified by the absent teacher.
  • Check attendance procedures for the assigned classroom.
  • Become familiar with the building, especially fire escape routes.
  • Be available to cover a class or assist during planning periods; assignments may change if other needs arise.
  • Refrain from expressing personal opinions on topics such as religion or politics.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Remain at school until the day has ended, regardless of whether there is a class during the last period.
  • Refrain from using personal cell phones or tablets during classroom hours.
  • No personal work is permitted while on duty.
  • Oversee pupil behavior in the assigned classroom.
  • If assigned, grade all papers done that day and record results according to school instructions; record absences as instructed.
  • Return keys and materials, complete the substitute time sheet, and obtain the required signatures upon completion.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Preferred
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Ability to report to the school office on time.
  • Proficiency with computer network systems and software applications.
  • Organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ability to establish cooperative relationships with colleagues.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality of student and employee information.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of students and staff.
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
  • Must have a 1‑Year Substitute Authorization from the Colorado Department of Education.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Must be physically able to work outdoors throughout the school year, lift objects of up to 5 lbs frequently, and meet vision, hearing, speech, and mobility requirements as described in the original listing.

Benefits

Employee is allowed sick leave per state law and school policy. Retirement in the Public Employees Retirement Association (P.E.R.A.). No other benefits are contemplated for this position.
