Classification: Exempt

Contract Length: 190 days )

Salary: Salary placement on Certified Salary schedule depends on education and/or experience. Certified/licensed employees are granted one year of pay for each full year of contractual/work experience up to a maximum of ten years. Verification of outside experience is the responsibility of the employee.

Job Description

Summary/Objective

Provide an enriched learning environment where students acquire subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society. Facilitate learning and guide students toward intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth, reporting to the building principal and department director.

Essential Functions
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control fostering safety and positivity.
  • Ensure adequate supervision for the health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum standards, establish clear objectives, and communicate them to students.
  • Use appropriate instructional methods and materials.
  • Assess student achievements regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Diagnose learning abilities and consult district specialists when needed.
  • Provide counseling with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Support administration in implementing student life and conduct policies.
  • Develop reasonable classroom rules and maintain order fairly.
  • Supervise instructional assistants/volunteers and collaborate with department heads.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on required committees.
  • Employ varied instructional techniques and media for student groups.
  • Implement district philosophy of education and standards.
  • Respect students’ personal spaces.
  • Implement IEP plans while preserving academic time and motivating participation.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records per law and policy.
  • Be available for student/parent contact outside instructional day as needed.
  • Collaborate on instructional goal planning.
  • Select books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Participate in co‑curricular activities as assigned.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline issues promptly.
  • Model non‑discriminatory practices.
  • Comply with school and division regulations.
  • Maintain communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
  • Engage in professional growth activities (reading, workshops, conferences, advanced coursework).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building administrator(s).
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Must follow oral and written directions; establish effective relationships with staff and students; maintain effective classroom management; possess visual, auditory, and ambulatory ability; exhibit excellent verbal and written communication; demonstrate conflict management, strong organization, empathy, and positive relationship building; and have sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all functions of the position.
