Summary:

The Itinerant Behavior Support Para educator provides district wide support to students with behavioral needs across general and special education settings. This role implements individualized behavior, intervention, and health plans; adapts instruction; and supports students across various school environments using evidence-based practices that prioritized dignity, inclusion, and relationship-building. Assigned to schools based on urgent and emerging needs, the para educator collaborates with case managers and special education staff, assists with data collection and documentation, and helps build staff capacity through modeling and support.

The position also assists in crisis situations in accordance with established protocols and maintains required certifications and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide district wide, itinerant behavioral and academic support to students in general and special education settings by implementing intervention, behavior, and health plans; adapting instruction; supporting across school environments; and assisting in crisis situations in accordance with established protocols, laws, and evidence-based practices under the direction of assigned staff.
  • Provide modeling and demonstration of plan implementation to build staff capacity for sustained support once services conclude.
  • Collaborate with special education teacher/case manager and Special Education Department staff on implementation of individual student plans.
  • Consult with the case manager on observed student barriers to learning using strengths-based approaches that respect student autonomy, communication, and sensory needs.
  • Assist case manager/teacher with paperwork and documentation of progress on goals and behavioral data collection.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, following state regulations and district protocols around confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional learning necessary to implement unique student plans and maintain behavioral skill specialty.
  • Attend required professional development, including CPI, CPR, and First Aid. Maintain certification in these areas.
  • Support eloping students by keeping them within 3-5 feet to ensure the student remains safe. Must be physically able to run with students to keep them safe in close proximity.
  • When requested, attend IEP annual or tri-annual meetings as well as staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience working with students with behavioral needs.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English. Must be able to lift 50 pounds; diaper, feed; complete other delegated nursing and health care duties.
  • Must be able to run or jog when needed for student safety.
  • Experience working with children.

Preferred:

  • Candidates with a current or previously held Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential.
  • Positive communication, interaction and work experience with diverse people.
  • Basic bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
  • Experience working with students with special needs.

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
