Education / ExperienceRequired: AA degree or 48 semester hours or passing scores on Work Keys exam
Preferred: CPI training (training provided); CPR / First Aid (training provided)
Job DescriptionSummary / Objective: Provide an enriched atmosphere where students learn subject matter and/or skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society. Facilitate learning and guide students toward fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation. Responsible to the building principal and department director where assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support the academic programming and progress of individual students and/or small groups with identified significant needs.
- Provide student-specific personal care and support.
- Assist with daily classroom activities, data collection, sanitizing equipment and materials, and supporting staff.
- Maintain focus during long periods of work with students; manage distractions and sensory/communication needs.
- Move quickly between positions to respond to student needs; maintain upper body strength with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Applicant must have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Must provide student-specific personal care support. Previous experience in a school setting or with children with special needs. Strong verbal communication, teamwork, positive attitude, and physical ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. Paraprofessional experience preferred. Bilingual skills preferred, but not required.
