Responsibilities- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Maintains discipline and classroom control in accordance with school and county policies.
- Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Guides the learning process toward curriculum standards, establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
- Uses instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and standards.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses the learning abilities of students and seeks the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
- Assists in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable classroom rules and maintains order.
- Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers; collaborates with department heads.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of students.
- Works to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives.
- Respects students’ personal spaces and implements IEP plans while maintaining academic time and motivating students to learn and participate.
- Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Provides for communication with students and parents outside the instructional day when required or requested.
- Cooperates with staff to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods; assists in selecting books and instructional materials.
- Participates in co-curricular activities as assigned and takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems promptly.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities and complies with school and division regulations and policies.
- Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
- Provides for ongoing professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, and/or advanced coursework.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
Education/Experience
- Required: Bachelor’s degree;
Colorado Teaching License (Endorsement in related field). - Preferred: Experience in related field.
- Knowledge of Colorado and district content standards.
- Ability to perform all duties of the position and establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; empathetic; positive relationship builder.
- Visual, auditory, and ambulatory ability.
- Conflict management skills and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
