Job SummaryDevelop programming to support effective strength-based instruction for twice-exceptional students (students identified as gifted/talented with an identified co-existing disability requiring Special Education services). Effectively deliver instruction that promotes an exemplary educational program which fosters achievement for all students. Assignments include twice-exceptional students with mild to moderate to severe needs accessing varied Least Restrictive Environment settings.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. They do not encompass a comprehensive inventory of obligations. Frequencies and time allocations are flexible and subject to organizational requirements. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Instruct twice-exceptional students in large, small, and one-on-one settings. (Daily, 20%)
- Develop, plan, prepare, and implement course content aligned with Colorado Content Standards for twice-exceptional students, including schedules, materials, curriculum, lesson plans, and targeted learning activities. (Daily, 20%)
- Design assignments and assessments that allow twice-exceptional students to demonstrate understanding in multiple ways; use assessment data to provide feedback and adjust instruction. (Daily, 10%)
- Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunities across settings through direct instruction and supervision of student behavior. (Daily, 10%)
- Develop and implement individualized education plans for twice-exceptional students. (Daily, 10%)
- Monitor student growth and progress, adapt support as needed, and maintain documentation of academic, social, and emotional progress and needs. (Daily, 5%)
- Communicate students’ progress, needs, and eligibility with parents/guardians and other staff as needed. (Daily, 5%)
- Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes. (Daily, 5%)
- Participate in department, team, building, and District meetings and discussions; conferences; social, cultural, interscholastic, extracurricular activities; and professional growth opportunities. (Weekly, 5%)
- Administer formal and informal diagnostic assessments for students with dichotic needs. (Monthly, 5%)
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (Daily, 5%)

- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- Bachelor's degree
- One (1) year of professional teaching experience working with the special education population
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
- CDE Special Education Generalist (ages 5-21) endorsement
- Mandatory biannual District-facilitated Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) de-escalation training
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Basic classroom management and planning skills
- Basic organizational skills
- Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
- Ability to align curriculum and assessments with state content standards
- Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
