Position: Substitute Teacher (Temporary) at Platte Valley YSC in Greeley, CO

Position Overview

This is a temporary position. Applications are considered from residents and non‑residents of Colorado. The posting will close on 12/1/2026.

About the Division of Youth Services

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides residential and non‑residential services for youth aged 10‑21 across Colorado.

Responsibilities
  • Work with State Teachers I and the Principal to determine classroom support needs based on lesson plans.
  • Cover classes or substitute when needed, sit with students to help with guided class work or computer work, and support special education in a paraprofessional role as required.
  • Inform the principal of testing commitments and implement safety procedures and policies in a trauma‑informed setting.
  • Maintain a secure test environment and proctor MAP tests, state‑mandated tests, and GED tests for identified students.
  • Create and maintain a testing schedule communicated to all parties.
  • Take and monitor tests, record results, download reports, and incorporate them into assessment reports for MDT and IEP meetings.
  • Enter testing data into spreadsheets and tools for stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Assist teachers and staff in creating a safe testing environment; give tests orally as needed; follow up on monthly, quarterly, and annual data collection.
  • Collect information for MTSS, MDT, and other meetings to support treatment teams.
  • Update and send monthly data sheets and MTSS information to the principal and DYS Education Director via email attachments.
  • Monitor attendance and grades; report to principal and DYS education director monthly or as requested.
  • Maintain organized spreadsheets and documentation and perform other duties as assigned.
Duties to Include
  • Classroom supervision in absence of teacher.
  • Troubleshoot issues with MAP tests.
  • Determine when MTSS data is needed for reports.
  • Determine what information reports are requesting.
  • Determine the level of support students may need.
  • Inform the principal of testing commitments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a field related to the work assignment.
Substitutions
  • Two years of study at an accredited institution (equivalent to 48 semester hours) substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Tutoring knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment (e.g., ACT Work Keys) substitute for the degree requirement, but a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required if using this substitution.
Highly Desirable Competencies
  • Bilingual.
Conditions of Employment
  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • No felony convictions or history of domestic violence.
  • Full background check and reference check required.
  • May need to travel for training and meetings.
  • Continued employment contingent on successful completion of the DYS Pre‑service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO) and mandatory annual training.
  • Applicant will complete the Diana Screen® sexual risk screening tool; results may be used in selection decision.
  • Former state employees who were disciplinary terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose on the application and explain why prior termination should not disqualify them; failure to provide will disqualify the applicant for future state employment with CDHS.
