Provide an enriched atmosphere where students learn subject matter and skills, contributing to their development as mature, responsible members of society. Facilitate learning and guide students toward full potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth while reporting to the building principal and department director.
Essential Functions- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Maintains classroom discipline and control fostering a safe and positive environment for all.
- Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Guides learning toward curriculum standards, establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicates these objectives.
- Uses instructional methods and materials most appropriate for stated objectives and standards.
- Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses learning abilities regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents regularly.
- Assists administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, developing classroom behavior rules, and maintaining order fairly.
- Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants or volunteers, working cooperatively with department heads.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
- Strives to implement district philosophy of education and instructional standards.
- Respects students' personal spaces throughout the day.
- Implements students' IEP plans while ensuring academic time integrity and motivating participation.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, policy, and regulation.
- Provides availability to students and parents outside instructional day when required or requested reasonably.
- Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assists in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Accepts responsibility for co‑curricular activities as assigned.
- Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities by taking necessary precautions.
- Reports student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to appropriate authority promptly.
- Models non‑discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
- Establishes and maintains open communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
- Provides own professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrators in accordance with policies.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding students' information.
- Follows oral and written directions, establishes effective working relationships with staff and students.
- Maintains effective classroom management strategies.
- Has visual, auditory, and ambulatory ability.
- Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication, conflict management, strong organizational, empathetic, and positive relationship‑building skills.
