Position Overview
West Ridge Academy is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and adaptable
5th Grade Teaching Assistant to join our team. The Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in supporting student learning, maintaining a positive classroom environment, supervision of students, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of our 5th-grade program.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced school setting, works collaboratively with teachers and staff, and possesses a strong ability to pivot quickly as classroom and school needs evolve throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Morning Duty: Greet students upon arrival, monitor hallway/arrival areas, and assist with a smooth transition into the start of the school day.
- Lunch & Recess Monitoring: Supervise students during lunch and outdoor/indoor recess, promoting positive social interactions, conflict resolution, and student safety.
- Small Group Instruction: Partner with the lead teacher to deliver targeted academic support and re-teaching in reading, math, and other core subjects for individual students or small groups.
- Classroom & Teacher Coverage: Provide substitute coverage for the lead teacher during planned absences or short-term coverage as needed.
- General Operational Support: Assist with classroom preparation, grading, administrative tasks, and clerical duties.
- Flexible Support: Fulfill additional duties as assigned across the school day to support student success and maintain school safety.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Adaptability & Flexibility: Highly versatile with a positive attitude and a proven ability to pivot quickly to meet changing daily priorities.
- Classroom Management & Leadership: Strong communication skills and a confident, proactive approach to maintaining classroom expectations and student safety.
- Collaboration: Ability to work closely with lead teachers, instructional staff, and administration to support student academic and social development.
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate's degree, Bachelor's preferred).
- Background Check: Ability to successfully complete a standard background check.
