This position is only open to Colorado state residents.
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

About the PositionAs the Safety Specialist I, youwill learn and support Region 4, Occupational Safety and Health programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational safety, safety-related training and emergency preparedness plan.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following- Learn about the occupational safety program;
- Monitor driver logs and vehicle safety compliance;
- Coordinate Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) vehicle tracking;
- Coordinate Driver License monitoring, including necessary screenings such as drug tests, physicals, and reasonable suspicion procedures;
- Track and schedule required employee safety training; assist with safety training and certifications as directed;
- Maintain and update safety training records through the State of Colorado (SOC) Learns Platform or internal databases;
- Assist in preparing documentation and compiling data for incident review boards;
- Support daily administrative tasks to include monthly credit card reconciliations and processing invoices;
- Observe work activities and learn to analyze and identify unrecognized and/or unaddressed safety hazards;
- Learn to advise and educate others on hazard controls and hazard control programs;
- Learn to develop and implement emergency preparedness plans;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but we are flexible to meet your work/life balance needs while ensuring CDOT business needs are met.
- Position is 100% on-site in main office with regular travel to other CDOT work facilities.
- Travel required during work hours throughout Northeastern Colorado.
- Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado.
- Required to operate CDOT vehicles
Experience Only:
- At least 4 years of experience related to occupational health and safety or industrial hygiene.
OR
Education and Experience:
- A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least 4 years.
- Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in occupational safety, safety science, industrial hygiene, industrial safety engineering, or another field of study related to the duties of this position will be considered.
- Experience related to occupational health and safety or industrial hygiene will be considered.
