Job SummaryThe Property Evidence Technician will be responsible for receiving, storing, releasing, and disposing of property obtained by the Greeley Police Department. The Technician will maintain security and chain of custody on all items submitted whether they are evidence, found property, or submitted for safekeeping. This role will maintain both written and computer documentation of all property transactions. Property Evidence Technicians work and interact with numerous Law Enforcement agencies, attorneys, citizens, and other business partners.

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two to four (2-4) years of relevant experience
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,
AND
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.

- Ability to maintain clear, concise, and complete records.
- Ability to interact effectively with others.
- Ability to handle detailed work, maintain a high level of accuracy and thoroughness of records, and follow detailed instructions.

- Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with co-workers and the community.
- Knowledge and ability to operate computers and various programs to include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other software.
- Ability to properly operate or use the following equipment: motor vehicle, dolly, ladder, hydraulic lift, and hand tools.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of the department and those involved with the department.
- Ability to drive a city vehicle or personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks, interruptions, and stress.
- Category A-Standard Local Travel:
This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.
- Log all evidence and property received and enforce department policy about the proper packaging of all items. Coordinate with department personnel to correct any inaccurate or incomplete submissions.
- Ensure the laws of evidence, General Orders, and Standard Operating Procedures regarding the handling of evidence and property are followed.
- Respond to inquiries regarding items held by the department; including authorization verification to release evidence to appropriate persons.
- Assist officers, investigators, and employees in obtaining evidence from storage to view, take to court, release to owner, or for other purposes.
- Assist citizens by phone, email, or in person.
- Release property to their rightful owner.
- Dispose of property, including hazardous property or materials, in accordance with policies, procedures, and retention schedules.
