Job Summary

The Greeley City Attorney’s Office is seeking an attorney to join our team. This position may be filled at the Attorney I or Attorney II level, depending on the qualifications of the applicants. The chosen attorney will primarily support and provide legal services to the Water and Sewer Department, Stormwater Department, and Water and Sewer Board in the areas of water law, environmental law, real estate, contracting and procurement, and municipal law.

The attorney in this position may also advise other City departments on a variety of other legal issues. Typical duties include drafting documents, conducting legal research and analysis, providing legal advice (both verbal and written), and representing the City before local, state, federal, and administrative tribunals.

Minimum Requirements Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree obtained through a four‑year college or university program.
  • Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado (or if application is pending, admission to practice within 60 days of hire date).
  • At least 5 years of experience practicing law is required to be considered for an Attorney II position.
Preferred
  • Experience working in state or local government and demonstrated interest in public service.
  • Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas of law:
    Municipal, Contracts and Procurement, Real Property, Water, Environmental, and/or Public Utilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Communication skills to effectively convey information to elected officials, the public, and City employees both in person and on the telephone.
  • Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.
  • By means of note‑taking or mental capacity, be able to recall information presented in meetings and/or court environments to be able to assert the City’s position.
  • Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate and facilitate meetings, and make decisions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem‑solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed.
  • Ability to self‑start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects.
  • Ability to focus on activities that have the greatest impact on meeting work commitments.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with a variety of internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages.
