Job Summary:
The Crew Supervisor I - Raw Water plans, directs, and supervises the daily operation, maintenance, and improvement of the City's non-potable water system, including pump stations, pipelines, wells, reservoirs, ditches, and conveyance infrastructure. This position provides leadership to field staff, oversees budgets, regulatory compliance, asset management, and capital improvement activities, and coordinates with engineering, contractors, ditch companies, developers, and internal departments to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system operations while supporting future system growth.
This position reports to the Raw Water Operations Supervisor.
Experience, Education, and
Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in raw water operations, irrigation systems, water distribution, public works, utilities, or a closely related field.
* Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain with 6 months of hire.
* Minimum of three (3) years of lead worker or supervisory experience.
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,
AND
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred:
* Associate's degree (two-year degree) or certification program of comparable length in a specialized field (e.g. sanitary sewer system construction, water systems transmission and distribution operations, or maintenance).
* Six (6) to ten (10) years of on-the-job experience in water distribution, construction, operations, large turf facility irrigation, and maintenance in a similar industry preferred.
* One (1) year of experience with ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Knowledge of non-potable water distribution systems, pump stations, pipelines, ditches, reservoirs, wells, and irrigation infrastructure.
* Knowledge of equipment, tools, and maintenance practices used in raw water operations.
* Knowledge of safe work practices, traffic control, excavation safety, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures.
* Ability to supervise, motivate, and develop field employees while promoting teamwork and accountability.
* Ability to read and interpret construction plans, maps, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
* Ability to identify operational problems and implement practical solutions.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, developers, regulatory agencies, and the public.
* Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
* Ability to utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), GIS applications, work order software, and Microsoft Office products.
Essential Functions:
Leadership & Supervision
* Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of field crews responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and construction of the City's non-potable water system, including pump stations, pipelines, wells, reservoirs, ditches, and conveyance infrastructure.
* Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and technical training on operational procedures, equipment operation, safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
* Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
* Develop employee work schedules, conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and support employee development.
* Conduct regular crew meetings, safety briefings, and field inspections to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with departmental standards.
