Seeking Livestock Foreman having experience with feeder cattle and hogs. We currently employ 2 full‑time people and several part‑time people in addition to the family. We also have return seasonal help (many retired part‑timers that return every year) for the silage harvest. We do have a cow herd, but most of the workload involves several thousand head of feeder cattle and a smaller focus on hogs.
We run a row crop operation including corn, soybeans, alfalfa and rye. There is some field work during the season, however the primary day‑to‑day responsibilities of this position include working with cattle and all that goes into that: mixing feed in our on‑site mill, cattle and hog chores, walking pens daily to check and treat animals, repair and maintenance of equipment, scraping concrete cattle lots and hauling manure weekly, hauling cattle and hog confinement manure yearly, fall silage harvest, field work etc.
Most of our equipment is newer series John Deere. Full‑time employees average 60 hr/week, more during harvest and less out of harvest. This position does have housing available for the right candidate.
Requirements:
Livestock experience, high school diploma, valid driver’s license, drug testing required. This position requires a person to be in strong physical condition; physical strength to lift 70 pounds, climb equipment and heights and sort livestock.
