Position summary:
Applies principles in solving problems affecting properties of a refrigeration system, including gas law application and related disciplines. Applies mechanics, electricity, thermodynamics or fluid dynamics in complex systems. Diagnoses problems by testing hypotheses in systems with potential mechanical, electrical, thermal, or flow faults. Identifies and applies principles of pressure/temperature relationships, refrigeration system piping, relays, contractors and starters. Capable of training others.
Haz Mat physical and Haz Mat training may be required. Capable of pumping down parts or whole refrigeration systems.
- Starts system and observes operation.
- Conducts periodic inspections to observe operating conditions.
- Monitors temperature, pressure and amperage readings.
- Observes system operation using gauges and instruments.
- Drains oil from refrigeration unit.
- Reads gauges to adjust mechanisms such as valves and controls.
- Records pressure and temperature readings and adjusts controls to achieve specified operation.
- Tests lines, components and connections for leaks.
- Performs preventive maintenance on compressors, condensers, evaporators and icemakers.
- Replaces or repairs defective parts to restore system operation.
- Keeps records of repairs and malfunctions.
- Checks fans, motors, belts and bearings.
- Complies with paperwork such as PSM, line break, hot work, confined space, etc.

BASIC SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS- Minimum of one year of ammonia refrigeration or maintenance experience required
- Experience with A/C and D/C control devices
- Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
- Able to work while walking/standing for long periods
- Good interpersonal skills
- Able to work weekends and overtime as needed
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
