Position SummaryThis position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. It is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by the RN and those under their direction. The RN utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and provide care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.
EssentialFunctions
- Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and post‑operative planning needs.
- Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within an appropriate timeframe.
- Reviews information obtained by other health‑care team members and diagnostics/laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and other relevant caregivers.
- Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
- Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family, and health‑team input.
- Initiates a plan of care based on patient‑specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care.
- Sets realistic, measurable goals in conjunction with the patient/family, considering physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age‑specific, and educational needs.
- Plans care in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members and revises the plan of care as patient status changes.
- Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health‑care team.
- Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Promotes continuity of care by communicating accurately and completely the status of patients to other caregivers.
- Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
- Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legible and timely documentation that reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient response.
- Provides care based on the best evidence and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
- Participates in facility shared leadership and interacts in the education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
- Promotes and supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
- Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes via timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
- Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
- May provide relief charge for staff and workflow of the department in some locations.
- Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
- Provides all customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core leadership behaviors daily.
Typical direct patient care environment:
Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Requires physical agility, adequate reaction time to respond to patient needs, adequate hearing and visual acuity (including color vision), fine motor skills, eye‑hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects. Must use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair, or wheelchair.
May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Standard precautions must be used to prevent exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Requires effective communication through reading, writing, and speaking, both in person and via telephone, and periodic use of computer and general office equipment.
- Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
- Current, valid RN license in state of practice; temporary RN license or compact RN licensure acceptable.
- BLS and ACLS required.
- PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned to ASC services pediatrics.
- Minimum one‑year licensed RN experience in Pre Op/PACU for full‑time/part‑time positions.
- Licensed RN with no Pre Op/PACU experience enrolled in Perianesthesia Academy and completing the program within 4 months.
- New licensed RN enrolled in Perianesthesia Academy and completing within 4 months.
- PRN:
Minimum two years licensed RN experience in Pre Op/PACU.
- Pre Op/PACU licensed RN experience strongly preferred.
Monday through Friday, 06:30 – 15:30 (hours may be adjusted if the right candidate is found).
