Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by the RN and other staff under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge and judgment to assess data, plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to each patient's physical and developmental age.
CoreFunctions
- Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; reviews patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to the physician and other appropriate caregivers; completes assessment and reassessments as outlined in policy.
- Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on assessment data and input from the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team; sets realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with patient/family; revises the plan as patient needs change.
- Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health‑care team; provides care per physician orders and nursing plan, following policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements; delegates appropriately and supervises other licensed nurses and personnel.
- Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching; revises the plan as needed; evaluates progress toward goals and expected outcomes with the health‑care team.
- Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; documentation is legible, timely, and compliant with policy, reflecting objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response.
- Provides care based on the best evidence available; may participate in research activities; participates in unit or facility shared leadership; engages in education and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors; promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
- Contributes to society by engaging in activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes and improves national nursing quality indicators; may participate in professional organizations.
- In certain roles, supervises staff and workflow of the department.
- Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts such as community providers and agencies; works with clergy to provide spiritual support; synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patients and families through changes in health status.
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
- Experience in the clinical area for which the role is being applied is desired; must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area through annual validations.
- For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions, a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting is required.
- Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
- For Home Health settings, team members must operate a personal vehicle, possess a valid driver's license, and maintain active auto insurance.
- For roles in certain Arizona behavioral health settings, requisite fingerprint clearance cards and criminal history affidavits must be obtained and maintained.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Professional certification preferred.
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
- Tuition Assistance:

- Shift Differentials:
Night Shift and Weekend Shifts. - Day Shift Incentive: $15,000.
- Night Shift Incentive: $20,000.
