Biological Science Technician

Summary

The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Intermountain Region, Rocky Mountain National Park, Division of Resource Stewardship. • Collaborates with a variety of work groups in different disciplines to minimize and respond to wildlife‑human conflicts.
• Administers proper drug dosages to captured animals, collects biological samples, records animal condition, body measurements, affixes ear‑tags and/or radio‑collars, and monitors recovery.
• Maintains scientific databases by collecting, entering, and analyzing data, and prepares reports of project activities.
• Organizes, conducts, trains, and leads others in field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues, and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution. Transcripts should include name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade‑point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official at the time of application, but if you are selected you must provide official transcripts before starting work. Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization and deemed equivalent to a U.S. accredited program, or full credit must be granted at a U.S. accredited college or university.

• Wear a NPS uniform in compliance with uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
• Work may include on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work; training and charge‑card authority may be required.
• Minimum age 18, or age 16 under specific graduation or enrollment conditions.
• Must meet the minimum qualifications for the position and complete any required documentation.

Salary Range: Shown as a range and does not guarantee entitlement to a higher rate of pay. This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days.

Career‑Seasonal Status: This is a career‑seasonal position subject to release and recall. Selectees will work a minimum of 24 pay periods to a maximum of 25 pay periods and may be in non‑pay/non‑duty status for at least two weeks per year based on project requirements or weather.

Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried routinely.

Working Conditions: Includes office, laboratory, and field work. Field duties involve exposure to extreme weather, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may expose employees to hazardous chemicals.
