Job Summary

The City of Greeley is seeking a Maintenance Technician or Water Systems Technician I – IV to join the Transmission and Distribution team in the Water and Sewer Department. The Technician will report to the Transmission and Distribution Crew Supervisor and will assist in the routine repair and maintenance of water mains throughout the City. The role involves installing water mains, inspecting and repairing water leaks and infrastructure, replacing water pipes, and operating heavy equipment.

Field work includes confined spaces, excavation trenches, and proximity to heavy equipment. The position requires a rotating on‑call schedule and a willingness to respond to emergencies within 45 minutes.

Minimum Requirements (All Levels)
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of utility maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to participate in a rotating on‑call schedule.
  • Ability to respond to after‑hours emergencies within 45 minutes.
  • For Maintenance Technician:
    Current Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 6 to 9 months of hire.
  • For Water System Technician I:
    One month related experience, Class A CDL, and Water Distribution Operator 1 certification.
  • For Water System Technician II:
    Two years related experience, Class A CDL, and Water Distribution Operator 2 certification.
  • For Water System Technician III:
    Three years related experience, Class A CDL, and Water Distribution Operator 3 certification.
  • For Water System Technician IV:
    Four years related experience, Class A CDL, and Water Distribution Operator 4 certification.
Preferred
  • Prior water, sewer or streets maintenance experience.
  • Prior mechanical experience.
  • Experience and comfort working in a heavy‑traffic environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Measure distance using tape or calibrated instruments.
  • Interpret maps, electrical schematics, and drawings.
  • Learn job material through oral instructions and observation.
  • Follow established safety practices and procedures.
  • Commit to the on‑call schedule.
  • Know the structure of Colorado municipalities.

Essential Functions
  • Install water taps, pipes, valves, and fire hydrants; flush hydrants.
  • Maintain water pipes and equipment.
  • Investigate water color, taste, and odor complaints.
  • Clean out water valves and hydrant lines (March – May).
  • Perform cold patching of construction holes, repair sidewalks, and fill manholes.
  • Maintain and track inventory.
  • Clean up after work.
  • Operate shovels, hand tools, power tools, and Company vehicles daily.
  • Work in confined spaces, trenches, and near heavy equipment.
  • Operate various equipment and create logs of maintenance activities.
  • Participate in stand‑by duty for emergency call‑ins on a rotation.
  • Complete work orders daily in City Works.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
