Electrical Inspector

The Electrical Inspector performs skilled inspection work to ensure compliance with state and local codes and ordinances regulating electrical installations within the City.

• Inspects new and existing residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations and equipment for compliance.
• Issues correction notices when installations or equipment are found defective or in violation.
• Recommends correct methods of installation.
• Reviews electrical plans and specifications for compliance.
• Consults with electrical contractors regarding design of new installations and alteration of existing ones.
• Maintains a valid driver's license and operates a City motor vehicle safely.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

• Works independently on field inspections and makes technical judgment decisions; consults with a technical superior on more difficult cases.
• Submits work to periodic checks and reviews by a technical superior.
• Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
• May be assigned additional duties as determined by the City.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Journeyman or Master Electrician license from the Colorado State Electrical Board.
• Experience as a Journeyman or Master Electrician in a wide variety of electrical installation work.
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge and skills.

• Constant standing, walking on uneven terrain, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and climbing ladders as needed.
• Frequent sitting to write reports and drive to sites.
• Occasional crawling, climbing, and reaching overhead or below shoulder to manipulate tools.
• Frequent light grasping and handling of equipment.
• Frequent stepping up/down around vehicles and foundations; use of vehicles safely.
• Frequent use of far and near vision to detect hazards and write reports.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds and pushing/pulling of up to 20 pounds.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, occasionally under extreme temperatures, with frequent exposure to noise and limited hearing ability.

• Background checks including employment references, criminal history, credit check, driver license record, and education verification.
• Drug screen.
• Physical examination.

The salary range for this position is provided above and depends on qualifications and experience. The City offers a Multilingual Stipend Program for employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English, providing a bi‑weekly stipend based on proficiency level.
