Full Salary Range: $32.15 - $46.62 Hourly

Job Summary:

The Stormwater Crew Supervisor I oversees and participates in the daily operations of stormwater maintenance crews responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's stormwater infrastructure system. This position plans, schedules, and supervises field activities related to storm sewers, culverts, channels, detention ponds, drainage ways, and other stormwater assets, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with City standards and regulatory requirements.

The position provides leadership and oversight for field staff, coordinates personnel, equipment, materials, and contractor resources, and supports customer service, regulatory compliance, and operational planning. The Stormwater Crew Supervisor I serves as a first responder during flooding, severe weather events, snow operations, and other emergencies, coordinating response and recovery efforts to protect public safety and critical infrastructure.

Experience, Education, and

Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory or lead experience
  • Four (4) years of experience stormwater, drainage, utility, construction, operating heavy equipment, or related infrastructure maintenance.
  • Current Class A CDL driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Colorado Collections System Operator Class I Certification or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Colorado Collections System Operator Class II Certification or ability to obtain within twenty-four (24) months of hire.
  • Flagger certification, and work zone traffic control certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.

OR

Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job, AND

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Colorado Collections System Operator Class II and III Certification
  • Experience in municipal street maintenance operations
  • Experience with snow and ice operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair methods related to assigned functional area (streets, parks, utilities, stormwater, etc.).
  • Ability to read blueprints and all Division light / heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge and skills working with office computer, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Oracle, City Works, calculators, telephones, and 2-way radios.
  • Familiarity with safe work practices, occupational hazards, and applicable regulations.
  • Skill in operating a variety of tools, vehicles, and equipment related to work activities.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of a small crew.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare simple reports.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, organize, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of crews engaged in the inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's stormwater infrastructure system.
  • Develop and manage maintenance schedules and work plans; ensure compliance with City standards, operational procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate stormwater maintenance activities including storm sewer cleaning, culvert and pipe maintenance, inlet and manhole repairs, channel maintenance, detention pond maintenance, sediment and debris removal, erosion repairs, vegetation management, water quality feature maintenance, and restoration activities.
