Full Salary Range: $21.96 - $31.84 Hourly

Job Summary
The Irrigation Technician I performs irrigation, landscape, facility, and general maintenance activities within City public spaces, with an emphasis on downtown Greeley. The position installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems and public-space infrastructure; performs landscape maintenance; supports special events; operates equipment and tools; and assists with snow and ice removal.
This is an entry-level position within the Irrigation Technician series and works under general supervision while developing proficiency in irrigation systems, equipment operation, landscape maintenance, chemical application, and public-space maintenance practices. The position may provide work direction on assigned projects or tasks as operational needs require.
Minimum Requirements
Experience, Education, and
Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in irrigation, landscaping, grounds maintenance, construction, public works, facilities maintenance, or a related field.
- Ability to obtain Flagger and/or Work Zone Traffic Control Certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to participate in an on-call schedule and work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency assignments as operational needs require.
- Class A or B CDL or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,
AND
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Specialized training beyond high school or related experience in equipment maintenance or basic mechanics.
- Previous team leader or supervisory experience.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, components, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of landscape and grounds maintenance practices, including planting, mowing, pruning, watering, and weed control.
- Knowledge of safe equipment operation, chemical handling, PPE, and general work-zone safety practices.
- Skill in operating landscaping and maintenance equipment, vehicles, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to identify basic irrigation, landscape, equipment, and public-space maintenance needs and perform appropriate repairs.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, equipment instructions, chemical labels, safety information, and basic plans or diagrams.
- Ability to safely apply and document pesticides, herbicides, and other chemical products.
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple assignments, and adjust priorities in response to changing operational needs and interruptions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with employees, contractors, businesses, and the public.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a highly visible public environment.
- Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains irrigation systems, including controllers, valves, sprinkler heads, piping, and related components.
- Performs landscape and public-space maintenance, including planting, mowing, watering, pruning, weed control, paver installation, and maintenance of benches, trash receptacles, and other amenities.
