Position Overview
Position is open to current Colorado residents only.
This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies (Full time and part time).
Campus at Mount View includes:
- Betty K. Marler Youth Services Center (committed females) – 30-bed youth center, focus on long‑term treatment.
- Phoenix Youth Services Center (committed males) – 24-bed youth center, focus on long‑term treatment.
Physical Location – Phoenix Youth Service Center, 7862 W Mansfield Pkwy, Lakewood, CO 80235.
About the Division of Youth ServicesThe mission of the Division of Youth Services (DYS) is to protect, restore and improve public safety utilizing a continuum of care that provides effective supervision, promotes accountability to victims and communities, and helps youth lead constructive lives through positive youth development. DYS operates 15 secure facilities serving youth ages 10‑21 who are pre‑adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. In addition to residential programming, DYS administers juvenile parole services throughout the state.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Safety/Security. Provide direct care and supervision of adjudicated and/or pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting. Enforce behavioral management plans, monitor daily activities, intervene in crisis situations, de‑escalate, use physical response/restraint when necessary, debrief incidents, and conduct searches.
- Youth Center Programming. Implement and follow the Youth Center’s behavioral management program; teach, coach, and redirect youth. Support DYS initiatives on programming and crisis intervention.
- Documentation/Recording and Reporting. Record observations of youth behavior, document unit activities and required information in logs and database systems.
- Organizational Accountability. Demonstrate adherence to CDHS Code of Conduct and DYS policies while fostering a trauma‑responsive environment.
- Training. Complete DYS Pre‑Service Training Academy, Youth Center training, orientation, ongoing online training, and maintain proficiency in management strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- No substitutions.
- Physical ability to stand, climb stairs, and intervene with assaultive youth.
- College education in behavioral health or juvenile justice.
- Experience with adjudicated and/or detained youth in secure facilities.
- Experience facilitating psycho educational groups.
- Experience working with adolescents who have trauma.
- Experience mentoring and coaching youth in positive roles.
- Use of verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques.
- Relevant years of state service experience.
- Skilled in conflict management.
- Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making skills.
- Self‑control, composure, and ability to manage stressful situations.
- Clear verbal communication and respectful conduct.
- Identification and reporting of changes, hazards, or security breaches.
- Ability to document events in a written, factual, concise, and legible manner.
Shift work is required, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may be 8, 10, or 12 hours. Mandatory overtime may be required. Day shift work is typically unavailable. The position may require reporting during inclement weather.
Conditions of Employment- Full Background check with CDHS documentation, court database, drug screen, and other required checks.
- Minimum age 21 and no felony convictions or domestic violence history.
- Valid, unrestricted Colorado Driver's License.
- Shift work subject to schedule changes.
- Travel may be required for transportation of youth.
- Continued employment contingent upon completion of DYS Pre‑service Training Academy, Field Training Program, and annual mandatory training.
- Disclosure required for prior state disciplinary termination or resignation.
- Completion of Diana Screen sexual risk screening tool.
