Compensation
Total annual compensation is $59,934 ($53,934 base pay and $6,000 housing stipend). Base pay is $2,074.39 biweekly ($53,934 – $54,000 annually). Hiring location is eligible for an additional $500/month housing stipend. Annualised hourly rate is $25.93, with overtime rate of $38.89.
What You Will DoDaily work activities vary by project need, weather, and road conditions. You will be on‑call on a rotating basis and respond to emergencies. You will work in a team with a lead specialist and other specialists.
Responsibilities include:
- Plowing snow
- Operating heavy equipment such as tandem dump truck, loader, excavator, mower, etc.
- Mowing grass and weeds
- Removing debris from roadways, culverts, tunnels, etc.
- Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
- Digging ditches
- Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting
- Filling potholes and roadway cracks
- Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
- Removing and covering graffiti
- Installing pavement markings/striping
- Stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations
- Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
- Following safety guidance and wearing proper safety equipment

- Drive CDOT vehicles
- Frequent emergency response outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays
- Must be physically capable of working in extreme temperatures and at elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods
At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.

- Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no air‑brake restriction for Colorado operation.
- If holding a non‑Colorado CDL, must be eligible to drive in Colorado at hire and, if relocating from out of state, must transfer CDL to Colorado within 30 days.
- Must pass pre‑employment screening (background, driving records, etc.)
- May be required to pass a drug test and DOT physical.
- On‑call work (rotating and as called)
- Shift work
- Essential Services designation – required to respond without delay to emergency services.
- May need to live within thirty (30) minutes driving time of worksite.
- New employees receive two weeks of maintenance training; veteran employees receive one week of training annually.
- May need Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6 months to 1 year.
- Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Must provide a telephone number for emergency contact.
