Accounting Manager
Manages Accounting Assistants, Accountants, and Payroll staff; schedules and prioritizes workflow; performs general ledger functions; prepares monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP; analyzes financial statements; monitors internal controls; prepares and analyzes budgets; oversees payroll operations; prepares compliance reporting and cash management activities; and serves as a change agent by identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across accounting and payroll functions.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Manages accounting and payroll staff including communicating expectations, training and developing team members, providing feedback, coordinating workflow, and ensuring goals are met in an efficient and effective manner.
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting and payroll functions by evaluating processes, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and automation, implementing best practices, and driving change management to improve accuracy, controls, and team effectiveness.
- Coordinates month-end close for multiple entities; performs G/L functions (reviews postings, records journal entries, records estimates, adjusts accruals/prepaids) and monitors internal controls.
- Prepares, reconciles, and reviews monthly financial statements, including footnote preparation and variance analysis comparing actual results to budget.
- Oversees payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations, payroll tax reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Reviews and approves payroll-related transactions, reconciles payroll accounts, and partners with Human Resources and operational leadership to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains and troubleshoots general ledger software and serves as G/L system administrator.
- Prepares annual budgets.
- Performs specialized analysis and reconciles key information related to inventory, revenue, commissions, accounts receivable, cash, payroll, intercompany transactions, and other financial areas.
- Manages and reconciles accounting and allocation records for management and holding companies.
- Performs additional related duties as requested or required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent required. 2
-4 years of accounting required. - CMA or CPA and leadership experience preferred.
- Personal computer skills:
Windows, Word Processing, Spreadsheet and GL - Strong mathematical, statistical and analytical skills
- Communicate effectively verbally/written.
- Strong interpersonal skills: relationship building, listening, and conflict resolution
- Leadership skills including training, management and feedback
- Attention to detail and a desire to maintain accuracy and quality
- Ability and willingness to learn and problem solve
- Decisive, organized and results oriented
A self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and interpersonal skills, who can effectively multitask and maintain accuracy under deadlines, would excel in this role.
