The Protective Services Specialist provides expert guidance to Wisconsin sheriff, police, and fire/EMS agencies on risk mitigation, loss control, safety practices, and operational readiness. As the organization’s public safety risk expert, the Specialist helps member agencies reduce liability, prevent injuries, strengthen policies, and improve organizational resilience.

The Specialist collaborates with member leadership, training staff, municipal administrators, and internal WMMIC teams to administer protective‑services programs, develop evidence‑based safety initiatives, assess agency needs, and deliver high‑impact training and consultation statewide.

Public safety agencies face complex and evolving risks. By providing expert consultation, safety leadership, and program administration, the Protective Services Specialist plays a critical role in helping Wisconsin municipalities protect their employees, safeguard the public, reduce liability exposure, and strengthen community trust.

• Conducts on‑site safety, operational, and risk assessments for law enforcement, jail operations, fire service, and EMS agencies.
• Provides best‑practice, standards‑based recommendations aligned with Wisconsin statutory requirements to reduce workers’ compensation claims, liability exposure, and operational hazards.
• Identifies trends in high‑risk activities (e.g., use of force, apparatus operations, EV incidents, roadway safety, firefighter/EMS exposures, fatigue‑related risks).

• Designs and delivers training for public safety personnel on risk mitigation, safety culture, ethics, incident prevention, and operational readiness.
• Assists members in developing or updating policies, SOPs, and training plans, including accreditation‑related initiatives (e.g., Lexipol‑aligned policies, accreditation pursuits).
• Produces educational materials, safety bulletins, and specialized resources for sheriffs, police, and fire/EMS agencies (e.g., risk alerts, monthly safety topics).

• Serves as the primary relationship manager for public safety agencies, providing responsive support and expert guidance.
• Facilitate communication with chiefs, sheriffs, command staff, training divisions, municipal administrators, and risk managers.
• Represents the organization at conferences, regional meetings, and professional associations to strengthen partnerships and advance continuous improvement.
• Monitors claim trends, operational losses, and emerging risks to guide program improvements and member recommendations.
• Works with internal teams (claims, loss control, member services) to analyze data and develop targeted risk‑reduction strategies.
