The faculty member is responsible to participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum; to support the Strategic Plan of the College; and to contribute to the development of the profession.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports to the BSN Program Director.
KEY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Visibly supportive of the College mission and values.
2. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum with attention to the program outcomes, accreditation standards, and emerging academic and healthcare issues.
3. Supports the assessment of student academic achievement as a means toward student growth and curriculum enhancement.
4. Provides effective high quality classroom, lab, and clinical instruction in a variety of learning situations.
5. Maintains an effective student-centered learning environment that promotes professional development of the individual in a creative and humanistic way.
6. Provides a learning environment that supports student development of critical thinking, clinical judgement, decision-making, and problem-solving.
7. Mentors student for appropriate learning and professional development.
8. Demonstrates a high standard of professional conduct and practice that students may emulate.
9. Is self-directed in personal professional growth.
10. Maintains membership and participates in professional organizations.
11. Facilitates student involvement in professional activities.
12. Participates in the continual growth of the profession through scholarly activities including research, dissemination of evidence, and engagement in professional service.
13. Communicates and interprets program mission, philosophy, values, goals, policies, curriculum, and activities to students, faculty, clinical facilities staff, and members of the community.
14. Functions in partnership with clinical agencies and the community at large in planning, implementing, and evaluating optimum student learning activities.
15. Promotes the health of the community through community service.
16. Utilizes College resources in a wise manner.
17. Completes activities/tasks in an accountable and timely manner.
18. Participates in recruitment activities.
19. Shows support of students, other faculty, and staff of the College.
20. Maintains the expectations set for academic rank.
21. Participates in the College wide efforts related to continuous quality improvement.
22. Maintains professional confidentiality.
23. Promotes effective and positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
24. Assists with a variety of projects as delegated or as appropriate to the position.
25. Serves as a member of college committees.
Qualifications:
Education - Licensures:
The Wisconsin Code and accreditation criteria together require that faculty:
* Hold a master's degree in nursing.
o Faculty teaching generalist core nursing courses (e.g. issues and trends, research, management, pharmacology, pathophysiology) have advance preparation and/or experience appropriate to the assigned teaching responsibility.
o Faculty teaching direct care courses have clinical specialization appropriate to their area of teaching responsibility.
o These competency requirements may be obtained through academic c4redit, institutes, extension courses, continuing education offerings, and experience.
* The minimum expectation I s a master's degree; however, doctoral preparation in nursing is preferred. Individuals enrolled in an MSN program may be considered.
* Hold a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Wisconsin or Nurse Licensure Compact state.
* In addition, the College has identified the need for competency in applying principles of learning, in teaching, curriculum development, and in the clinical area of assignment.
Experience:
* Have at least two years of full-time or equivalent direct care experience as a practicing nurse.
* Be employed in nursing within the last five years.
