Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Education Director, provide all necessary instruction to complete the barbering/cosmetology program, maintain equipment and supplies, evaluate students, maintain classroom control, and prepare students for State Board examinations. Adhere to all Department of Corrections (DOC), Green Bay Correctional Institution (GBCI), and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) standards, policies, and procedures.
Salary InformationThis position is in pay schedule and range 13-04 with a starting pay of $29.00/hour to $35.06/hour. Applicants may be eligible for add on pay of up to $2.97/hour for those with credits earned from an accredited technical college, college or university, over and above those needed for basic certification. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire.
A probationary period is required.

Job Details- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
- Department of Corrections may conduct pre‑employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre‑employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
- The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
- This position is not eligible for remote work.
Special Requirement:
- Credentials or eligibility to receive credentials from the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) as a Barber/Cosmetology Instructor (502).
Eligibility for Barber/Cosmetology Instructor credentials includes:
- Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited college.
- Cosmetology Instructor or Barbering Instructor license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
- A minimum of 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught, of which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least 2 years of post‑secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to the date of appointment.
Two years of post‑secondary teaching experience means 8 semesters of part‑time teaching or 4 semesters of full‑time teaching at an accredited post‑secondary degree granting institution.
