Job Overview

We are looking for energetic, fun, motivated, and kid-loving people to instruct students in our developmental gymnastics program. As an instructor, you will safely lead participants through engaging classes and assist with team practices and competitions while developing participants' confidence, skills, and abilities.

The gymnastic Instructor is a part-time (up to 18 hours/week) position paying $18.00/hour.

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Gymnastics Instructor will instruct gymnastics, tumbling, and/or cheer classes and camps in a safe, positive, educational, and fun environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Execute planned activities appropriate for age and ability level to include skills.
  • Assist Lead Gymnastics Instructor in planning program activities.
  • Participate in structured activities with children; observe and assist participants in acquiring new skills.
  • Provide safe and effective spotting skills as appropriate for class (e.g., forward/backward rolls, vaulting, beam, handsprings, etc.) and maintain a safe environment for program participants.
  • Prepare gymnastics area for daily activities and clean up at end of the day. Check equipment for safety and report any safety issues to supervisor immediately.
  • Participate in instructing participants in team competition settings, as appropriate.
  • Directly oversee the work of any aides assigned to work in the program area and ensure that minor support staff are never left unattended with program participants.
QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Must be at least 18 years old for instructor position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in gymnastics, tumbling, or cheer strongly preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
  • Applicant must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's license and clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier.

  • Ability to interact with the general public in a calm, rational manner.
  • Ability to organize and supervise participants with special attention to safety.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES

The physical demands include standing, walking, actively engaging with participants during shifts; using hands; reaching; climbing stairs; balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; talking; hearing; taste or smell. Must regularly support partly the weight of participants during spotting and sometimes lift up to 50 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job is performed in a busy recreation setting with moderate to loud noise. The building is climate controlled and most work will be at normal room temperature, though some areas may be more humid or variable. Work hours are commensurate with Kroc Center hours, including some nights and weekends. Employees may occasionally be required to travel to team competitions at off-site locations, where they will be exposed to environmental conditions present at the site.
