Description
Become a Licensed Special Education Teacher Through RUSD's RISE Residency Program
The Racine Initiative for Support in Education (RISE) is a paid teacher residency program designed to support individuals who currently hold a bachelor’s degree and are working under an emergency teaching license in special education. The program provides a structured pathway to full licensure while allowing residents to work as full-time teachers in the Racine Unified School District (RUSD).
As a RISE Resident, You Will- Serve as the teacher-of-record in a special education classroom.
- Complete your coursework through a partner educator preparation program (EPP).
- Receive mentoring, instructional coaching, and ongoing support from RUSD staff.
- Be part of a cohort of educators working toward licensure together.
- Have half of your tuition paid by the District, with the remaining portion deducted through payroll over the two-year residency.
The RISE program is designed to promote inclusion, retention, and professional development while growing a diverse and highly effective special education workforce.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Working under or eligible for an emergency license in special education
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for supporting students with disabilities
