Part-Time Teaching Assistant

Essential Functions- Follow the NWTC ELL Handbook policies and program procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to English Language programming as part of the Wisconsin Technical College System.
- Work with individual English Language Learners or small groups of ELLs to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by instructors.
- Assist the instructor in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual ELLs, their needs, interests, and abilities; create and modify materials to match students' English proficiency levels.
- Assist ELLs with digital learning in the classroom.
- Monitor ELLs attitudes and encourage confidence; notify the ELL instructor of any specific concerns.
- Assist English Language Learners in understanding academic language, content, instructions, and expectations, under the direction the instructor.
- Perform various clerical duties as needed, maintain records of student progress; check daily attendance; make copies; maintain and operate the classroom equipment; maintain class files.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of instructors.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in professional development to support the English Language Learner program.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute instructor assigned in absence of the ELL instructor.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the ELL instructors and/or Associate Dean.
- Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals. This includes being accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time.
- Provide educational leadership and work effectively with faculty, administration, and campus support staff.
- Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
- Additional duties and responsibilities will be discussed as needs arise.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, linguistics, or a related field, preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- TESOL or TEFL certification
- Bi- or Multi-lingual, to include English and Spanish

Ability to work at a computer, facilitate and/or demonstrate instructional activities, and attend meetings for extended periods. - Mobility:
Ability to navigate throughout campus locations, classrooms, offices, meeting spaces, and events as needed. - Manual Dexterity:
Ability to operate office equipment, instructional technology, tools, or controls required for the position. - Communication:
Ability to effectively access, interpret, and exchange information with students, employees, and community members. - Light Material Handling:
Ability to transport or move instructional materials, supplies, or equipment required for the position, with or without assistance or adaptive equipment, if applicable.
