The Telecommunications Design Technician is responsible for working closely with the engineering team, project management, vendors and customers to plan, draft, and design network infrastructure layouts—such as distribution, active gear, passive infrastructure, structured cabling, Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and etc.

This role will perform network modeling, analysis, and planning, including analysis of capacity needs for network infrastructures and may analyze data needs to determine equipment and resource requirements for new installations or rebuilds for networks modernization. They will also analyze network capacity requirements, document technical specifications, and prepare cost estimates for infrastructure, ensuring, installing, and maintaining secure, high-performance systems.

The Telecommunications Design Technician position will play a key role in supporting the design implementation and operation of fiber optic networks and will be part of the Engineering & Customer Support Department. This is a high-level role reporting directly to the CEO and President.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree or technical experience equivalent considered in engineering, Telecommunications, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in OSP engineering and experience in field splicing and fiber installation required.
  • Proficiency in OSP design principles, cable systems (fiber/copper), and conduit systems.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Comprehensive understanding of telecommunications equipment such as fiber optics, satellites, routers, and switches.
  • Strong understanding of permitting, right-of-way, and utility coordination processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication (written/verbal), collaboration, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must have a state driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.
  • Must complete a pre-employment drug screening.
