Position Overview

We are seeking an HVAC Drafter who will assist with design, coordination, and execution of HVAC systems for commercial, multifamily, and municipal projects. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with 1–4 years of experience who is eager to expand their technical expertise within a rapidly scaling organization.

The HVAC Drafter will collaborate closely with internal engineering staff and Project Managers, and may also work together with field teams and clients to develop practical, efficient, and code-compliant HVAC system designs.

Responsibilities
  • Convert engineering data into detailed mechanical layouts, shop drawings, and as-built documents using AutoCAD and Revit MEP
  • Align HVAC models with architectural, structural, and plumbing designs to eliminate clashes before physical installation
  • Ensure system layouts adhere to regulations and standards
  • Review project plans with estimators, project managers, and on-site field teams, updating schematics to reflect changing site conditions
  • Design HVAC systems including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layouts
  • Develop construction documents, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform energy calculations and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other trades
  • Support design-build and plan-spec projects from concept through construction
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input
  • Conduct site visits as needed to verify field conditions and support project teams
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), or a related field
  • 1–4 years of HVAC design experience
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, airflow distribution, and mechanical systems
  • Solid grasp of geometry and algebra for calculating spatial clearances and dimensions
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, load calculations, and applicable mechanical codes
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical construction practices
  • Experience with commercial, K–12, municipal, or hospitality projects
  • Experience in multifamily projects preferred
  • Experience with public-sector and prevailing wage projects
  • Design-build or design-assist experience
  • HVAC/Refrigeration, Building Systems Engineering, or similar certifications
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin and Florida codes is a plus
  • Based out of our Grafton, WI office
  • Supports projects in the Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay metro areas
