Transportation Drainage Engineer (WisDOT)

Our client is seeking a Transportation Drainage Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects across Wisconsin. This role will focus heavily on WisDOT roadway and highway projects, including stormwater management, drainage design, hydraulic modeling, and permitting efforts. The ideal candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary transportation teams to develop innovative and cost-effective drainage solutions while ensuring compliance with WisDOT standards and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design storm sewer systems, culverts, detention facilities, and roadway drainage infrastructure for WisDOT projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare drainage reports, calculations, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate with WisDOT, municipalities, and regulatory agencies throughout project development.
  • Support erosion control, stormwater management, and permitting efforts.
  • Collaborate with roadway, traffic, and structural engineering teams on transportation projects.
  • Assist with project management, client communication, and technical mentoring as experience increases.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of transportation drainage experience preferred.
  • Experience working on WisDOT projects and familiarity with FDM guidelines and drainage standards.
  • Proficiency with Micro Station/Open Roads, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, HY-8, or similar drainage modeling software.
  • PE license preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Strong understanding of stormwater management, hydraulic design, and transportation engineering principles.
