Finance Manager – Operations
SUMMARY
The Finance Manager – Operations serves as the strategic finance business partner to Operations (manufacturing and supply chain) leadership, with direct accountability for operational financial performance across multiple plants (US and Canada). This role owns month‑end processes, analysis, forecasting, and reporting of cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory, and production‑related financial drivers. The manager actively influences decision‑making to optimize cost structure, cost per unit, efficiency, and profitability, presenting results to Senior Leadership and managing monthly internal reporting.
The position also leads the setting of new product standards and the annual cost roll, reviewing, analyzing, and maintaining system allocations and rates in collaboration with Operations leadership. Additionally, the manager champions data integrity, costing accuracy, reporting standardization, and continuous improvement in finance processes, systems, and analytics to support scalable, best‑in‑class operations finance capabilities.
- Own and drive financial performance across manufacturing and operations, including COGS, inventory, and key cost drivers; manage month‑end, reconciliations, reserve reviews, and COGS projections.
- Partner with Operations leadership to evaluate trade‑offs, improve efficiency, and deliver against financial targets.
- Lead the operations budgeting and forecasting process, translating volume, rate, and mix drivers into actionable financial plans and positive impacts to KPIs/Dashboards.
- Lead standard costing processes, including annual cost roll, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of operational financial data, including Bills of Materials, production drivers, and cost allocations.
- Lead and develop the operations finance team, building strong analytical, business partnership, and leadership capabilities.
- Support finance and systems transformation initiatives, driving improvements in processes, tools, and data to enable scalable, best‑in‑class finance operations.
- Carry out other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned.
This position has direct reports and carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing and hiring associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS- Proven track record of leadership, including mentoring, coaching, and development of staff; ability to make independent decisions and work with minimal supervision; persistent in the face of obstacles.
- Ability to interpret financial data and communicate conclusions and recommendations to various levels of management; familiarity with a variety of financial concepts and practices.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Business analysis skills, with the ability to see implications and provide solutions/recommendations.
- BS in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 7 years experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- SAP/FICO experience, specifically in the CO‑Profitability Analysis and CO‑Product Costing modules, is a plus.
CPA preferred, but not required.
OTHERSKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Hands‑on knowledge of supply‑chain systems and processes.
- Working knowledge of Bills of Materials and Master Recipe structures.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with achieved outcomes.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and organization skills.
