The Human Resources Department for the Green Bay Area Public School District is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and collaborative professional to join our team as a Human Resources Leaves Specialist
.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while providing exceptional service to employees and supervisors across the district. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate, compliant, and staff-centered administration of leaves and accommodations while supporting continuous improvement in Human Resources processes and service delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Provides exemplary customer service to all individuals who contact Human Resources
  • Coordinates district-wide leaves of absence, including medical, family, personal, ADA-related, and FMLA-qualifying leaves, ensuring eligibility review, approvals, and compliance
  • Facilitates the interactive dialogue process for leaves by coordinating medical documentation, provider communication, and documentation of decisions to ensure compliance with ADA, FMLA, and district policies for overlapping cases
  • Manages vendor and carrier coordination related to leave and disability claims, including verification of medical documentation, resolution of escalated issues, and monitoring vendor performance trends
  • Maintains compliant, organized leave and accommodation records by managing accurate case files, tracking systems, audit-ready documentation, and regular file reviews
  • Determines eligibility for short-term disability and income protection plans based on medical documentation and employee handbook criteria
  • Coordinates leave information with payroll in accordance with handbook policies and FMLA regulations
  • Monitors employees on long-term leave, including tracking the 190/191-day threshold and managing recall status communication and transitions
  • Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to support smooth and timely return-to-work processes and relays communication between employees and managers as appropriate
  • Advises district employees and supervisors on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers’ compensation, income protection plans, and long-term disability benefits
  • Develops and maintains staff-friendly leave education resources such as guides, FAQs, and digital materials; delivers training and proactive communications to employees and supervisors
  • Stays current on federal and state legislation related to leaves and informs HR leadership of relevant changes
  • Monitors, and analyzes metrics to measure the effectiveness of leave-related employment actions and recommends improvements based on data analysis as directed
  • Investigates leave-related issues using a problem-solving approach to identify root causes, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate and compliant administration
  • Enters and analyzes data in HRIS systems; prepares and presents reports to District administration as requested

    Prepares supporting materials, recommendations, and written reports for Board of Education meetings and updates as directed
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources team to support district strategies, goals, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Serves on district committees as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications Required
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Experience: One to three (1–3) years of experience in Human Resources
