SALARY: $68,494 to $73,823 per year
* Salaries/Wages for all finalists (internal and external) will be placed within the range based upon education, experiences, current wages, and internal equity.
POSITION SUMMARYThe Academic Systems Administrator serves as the college's subject matter expert for academic systems and instructional technologies, administering and enhancing the Learning Management System (LMS) and related technologies that support teaching, learning, and student success. This position partners with faculty, staff, IIT, and external vendors to optimize system effectiveness, provide technical expertise, support Faculty Developers in their use of data-informed teaching practices, facilitate professional development, and advance the effective use of instructional technology across the institution.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS Academic Systems Administration
- Administer and enhance academic systems and instructional technologies, including Canvas, Canvas Studio, Simple Syllabus, Panorama, Parchment Credentials, and other academic systems by managing configuration, security, integrations, user access, and system effectiveness while supporting teaching and learning outcomes.
- Manage daily operations of the Learning Management System (LMS) and other academic systems, including course creation and session setup, reporting, and permissions, ensuring maximum up time in a secure environment.
- Partner with stakeholders to improve business processes and maximize effective use of Canvas and other academic systems to support student success.
- Provide advanced technical support for the LMS and academic systems, including response efforts during major system incidents and outages. Perform diagnostics, resolve problems, provide solutions, and elevate problems to vendors as required to assure appropriate and prompt solutions to LMS related concerns from faculty, staff, and students.
- Collaborate with IIT to maintain associated learning technologies supported by the college, including system integrations. Serve as a liaison between the College and vendors to support third-party integrations into the LMS.
- Serve as the Teaching Excellence & Innovation representative to the IIT Change Advisory Board.
- Track and coordinate the evaluation, testing, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic application enhancements, releases, and new functionality. Recommend new features and tools, including AI workflows, that support teaching excellence and student success.
- Analyze system, engagement, and learning data, including Canvas Learning Outcomes, to identify trends, measure effectiveness, and recommend improvements that support student success and operational excellence.
- Lead and collaborate on cross-functional projects involving system implementations, integrations, process improvements, change management, and technology adoption.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, enhancements, and developments of related software that integrate with the LMS. Attend trainings and join professional networks as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain documentation, training materials, knowledge resources, and communications supporting the LMS and instructional technology initiatives.
- Consult with internal departments to develop and communicate change management standards, policies, and procedures for the LMS and other academic systems.
- Collaborate to test and implement functionality enhancements, operation productivity, and efficiencies for the LMS and academic systems.
- Facilitate professional development opportunities regarding LMS/academic systems that enhance instructional effectiveness, accessibility, and student engagement.
