General Description
The Law Department is seeking a collaborative, motivated Assistant City Attorney to join our legal team! This is a rewarding and challenging opportunity to make a direct impact on our community while working on a diverse range of legal issues and projects that shape the future of our city.
This position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), and the City also covers the cost of State Bar membership and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.
-5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m.
-11:30 a.m., plus additional hours as needed, including some evening meetings.
Opportunity to work remotely typically 1-day per week.
Hiring Range: $86,590-$94,245
No residency requirement.

Examples of Duties
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an ABA accredited law school.
- 1-3 years of experience in municipal law and legislation preferred.
- License to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.
- Admitted to practice law in federal courts at the time of hire or within 1 year of hire date.
- Compliance with continuing education requirements.
- Notary public commission.
- Must have acceptable personal and professional history as determined by successfully completing a background investigation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good knowledge of City codes and ordinances and State law. Good knowledge of the principles of civil and criminal law and of the methods and practices of pleading, judicial procedures and the rules of evidence. Good knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, practices and references utilized in legal research.
- Good skill in analyzing, appraising and organizing facts, evidence and precedents to ascertain the determining aspects of cases and to present such material in a clear and logical form. Skill in determining alternative choices. Skill in conducting legal research and data analysis. Skill in determining proper courses of action. Skill in communicating complex ideas both orally and in writing. Skill in dealing with City departments, officials and the general public.
- Ability to maintain an impartial demeanor in political issues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to work the required hours of the positions.
