Custodian (2nd Shift)
Position at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. The University of Wisconsin – Green Bay is currently seeking applications for a 2nd shift custodian position.
Pay and CompensationBase pay: $17.00/hr.
Additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours and for all hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
This position is not exempt from FLSA overtime provisions.
Job DutiesThe position requires a full two‑hour shift from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., maintaining the overall appearance and cleanliness of the designated work area. Work performed includes manual cleaning and maintenance of UWGB buildings. Tasks typically include:
- Cleaning offices, restrooms, and other building areas.
- Maintaining floor surfaces via mopping, buffing, vacuuming, shampooing, and refinishing.
- Cleaning windows inside and outside.
- Cleaning furniture.
- Assisting with furniture, piano, and equipment moves as required.
- Stocking restrooms and custodial work areas with necessary supplies and products.
- Waste and recycling removal.
- Snow removal and salting of building entrances.
- Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment, document inventory, and request additional supplies as needed.
- Document and report repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
- Monitor and secure facility interior and exterior entrances, reporting issues to appropriate entities.
- Maintain clean and clear walkways, ensuring they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
- Utilize basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables.

- High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application.
- Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment.
- Basic computer skills including the ability to use e‑mail and the internet.
- Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Oneida.
- Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodian work.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber.
- Knowledge of basic safety precautions, including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heavy lifting methods to ensure safety.
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow removal activities.
- Lift 50 lbs. from the floor to waist occasionally.
- Lift 30 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally.
- Stand and walk continuously throughout an eight‑hour shift.
- Push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, and frequent stair and ladder climbing.
This is a full‑time University Staff appointment. A criminal conviction investigation and pre‑work screen examination will be conducted on the finalists. A six‑month probationary period is required. The University does not offer H‑1B or other work‑authorization visa sponsorship; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire.
