Packaging Operator - 2nd Shift (Direct Hire)

Job Description/Duties:

The packaging machine operator is responsible for setting up and operating assigned packaging machines to pack an optimal number of quality packages of product.

Essential Functions:

  • Adhere to company human safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow company food safety, quality, and regulatory practices and procedures.
  • Set up and operate packaging machines to ensure finished products meet all customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment during changeovers between products.
  • Inspect packaging equipment prior to startup and changeovers.
  • Take ownership of packaging line results.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records/documentation.
  • Oversee efficient and safe operation of all equipment and personnel on the line.
  • Communicate with coworkers and maintenance staff to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Assist other departments as needed and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Prefer at least 1 year of packaging machine operator experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing specifications and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, allergens, and PPE.

Abilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and processes with maintenance.
  • Determine root causes and apply corrective actions diligently.
  • Read and write English; bilingual is a plus.
  • Basic math and computer skills.

Working Conditions:

Fast-paced food packaging environment that may include weekend work and overtime, exposure to various temperatures, working on concrete floors, and noise levels exceeding 85 dB.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive tasks.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs periodically.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders and stairs.
  • Push/pull up to 2200 lbs of raw materials on pallets.
  • Reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Slide barrels of up to 600 lbs of ingredients.
  • Potential exposure to allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, milk, and eggs.
  • Ability to wear PPE as required.
