Job Description/Duties:
The packaging machine operator is responsible for setting up and operating assigned packaging machines to pack an optimal number of quality packages of product.
Essential Functions:
- Adhere to company human safety policies and procedures.
- Follow company food safety, quality, and regulatory practices and procedures.
- Set up and operate packaging machines to ensure finished products meet all customer and regulatory requirements.
- Clean and sanitize equipment during changeovers between products.
- Inspect packaging equipment prior to startup and changeovers.
- Take ownership of packaging line results.
- Maintain accurate and legible records/documentation.
- Oversee efficient and safe operation of all equipment and personnel on the line.
- Communicate with coworkers and maintenance staff to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Assist other departments as needed and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Prefer at least 1 year of packaging machine operator experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing specifications and quality standards.
- Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, allergens, and PPE.
Abilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and processes with maintenance.
- Determine root causes and apply corrective actions diligently.
- Read and write English; bilingual is a plus.
- Basic math and computer skills.
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced food packaging environment that may include weekend work and overtime, exposure to various temperatures, working on concrete floors, and noise levels exceeding 85 dB.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Perform repetitive tasks.
- Lift up to 75 lbs periodically.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders and stairs.
- Push/pull up to 2200 lbs of raw materials on pallets.
- Reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs.
- Slide barrels of up to 600 lbs of ingredients.
- Potential exposure to allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, milk, and eggs.
- Ability to wear PPE as required.
